Keyframe and Reference Look-Dev Exploration

This page shows keyframe studies & selected references prepared for Hangar 13.

The project is the game Mafia III and PLEASE NOTE I wasn't involved in making the project. These images were reworked as part of a discussion I had with the art team about the design direction a follow up might take.

The object was to show how I would approach reference exploration and keyframe creation in relation to the theme of the project and to offer a demo on how it might be applied to selected keyframes.

The goal was to not change the image or content too much but to bring it into line with my selected reference material and to what would be possible within the game engine.

Keyframe selection

These frames were selected to represent a range of aspects from the published game.

Style Target References

The theme of the game was based on a gritty 1970's mood & styling. I picked three films to represent the period: "Dog Day Afternoon" (1975), "Serpico" (1979), and "Cruising" (1980). These are selected key images from the films:

PAINT OVERS

I reworked the game images to match the reference style.
